Bedroom Drag

I haven’t attended many drag or queer focused events in the past but the ones I have seen have been amazing and so wholesome. Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending Bedroom Drag, a queer set of performances at The Bees Mouth in Hove. As the name suggests, the theme was bedtime with pyjama dress a must, although I came in dungarees because apparently I don’t wear pyjamas anymore (I would have been acceptable in underwear according to my friend – thanks Tamara). I love seeing people perform and I think the mediums of drag, lip sync, music and more provide so many ways for people to find their identity and be themselves. Bedroom drag provided a safe space for just this and it was amazing to see so many and such a wide variety of acts including everything from sickening lip sync, daring drag and even a strawberry lace eating contest!

Previously, I think I’ve only ever been to events at the Caroline of Brunswick pub in Brighton which is also a venue on the small side and both require step access making them less accessible. So many people turned up to Bedroom Drag and I know so many more were interested because the tickets had sold out! Events like this provide such a great way to showcase all of the lgbtq+ talent that Brighton has to offer as well as providing a calm atmosphere for people to make friends. Next time, I’d love to bring some of my own friends and it would be great to see even more people there, provided they can access a bigger more accessible venue. I’ll try and list all of the acts and performers bellow so make sure you go and support them and make sure you come to the next event!

  • Nyota Starr
  • Gordy Florals
  • @cool.daph
  • India Mangoes (Tamara D’Souza)
  • Prince of Persia
  • Twink Floyd
  • Chub Rub – the amazing host!

You can see all of the performers profiles on the bedroom drag Facebook page and on their individual social medias (if I forgot anyone please let me know).
